Hotel

Barnsdale · Hospitality

The Brief

Originally built as a shooting lodge on the historic Exton Estate, the property was later converted into a hotel. When acquired in 2023, the interiors were dated and lacked the character and identity needed to create a memorable guest experience. The project covered the bar and pub-style areas, orangery, casual and main dining rooms, reception and meeting areas, and guest cloakrooms.

The orangery: cross-back chairs and laid tables beside sage-green glazing onto the garden Dining tables with green-and-orange chairs and printed lampshades, looking through to the Orangery and its stone wall A striped banquette, a rust velvet tub chair and round tables beneath a brass picture light

The Approach

Brought into the project at a late stage, the studio established the look and feel for the spaces and led the design through to installation. Every element was considered, from paint colours, fabrics, finishes and joinery to lighting and the full FF&E selection.

Working to a tight programme and carefully considered budget, the design introduced warmth, character and a stronger sense of identity while creating a cohesive connection across the different spaces.

Wheelback Windsor chairs with blue and grey seats around a parquet table, a rust sofa behind A bird-and-vine wallpaper above a rust-red painted dado

The Result

A refreshed hotel interior with a distinct sense of place and character. The main guest areas were successfully brought to life within the programme and have been warmly received since reopening.
